Highlights:
A seemingly more balding and spray-tanned Trump disrespected the world's most popular war hero
He used Kremlin propaganda talking points when talking to Zelenskyy
His hillbilly Nazi sidekick, JD Vance, setup what some news outlets were saying was a shouting match, but what was really a one-way rant of lies by Trump - Zelenskyy never shouted nor disrespected anyone. (Unfortunately)
Marjorie Taylor Greene's husband, Perry Greene, made a guest appearance in the Oval Office making fun of Zelenskyy not wearing a penguin suit
Meanwhile, the Associated Press is still barred from entering the Oval because they refuse to call the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America" (because it's not) but somehow a Russian state TASS reporter gained access
America First apparently means Russia First
I've been reeling from the Zelenskyy-Trump meeting all week. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's the first time a US president has disrespected a world leader - enemy or ally - to this degree. And it will have consequences for who is friend or foe of the US going forward.
JD Vance was CLEARLY prepared in advance to queue Trump to rant at Zelenskyy with Kremlin propaganda. The heckling hillbilly reporter married to Marjorie Trailer Green CLEARLY had pre-approval to make fun of Zelenskyy for not wearing a suit.
TLDR: The administration CLEARLY baited Zelenskyy to DC under the auspice of signing a mineral deal but only had plans to humiliate him on TV publicly. It was a trap. But Why?
Why would Trump, a self-enriching narcissist, turn down a $500 billion minerals deal in Ukraine that heavily favored the US only to humiliate Zelenskyy? Because he's a Russian asset.
Why does he constantly misstate the aid the US is giving Ukraine as $350 billion (wrong) and as cold hard cash being parachuted in by jets when in reality it's old stockpiled US weapons that are being replaced by new weapons being manufactured by US workers and creating jobs? (More on that below) Because he's a Russian asset.
Why does Trump keep trying to enforce a one-sided "deal" with Zelenskyy that involves

Ukraine giving up territory to Russia and Russia making absolutely no concessions? Why does Trump keep referring to Ukraine surrendering to Russia's demands as "peace"? Why does he keep saying Ukraine started the war, and calling Zelenskyy, a democratically elected President, a DICTATOR -- the same talking points the Kremlin uses? Because he's a Russian asset.
In reality, Ukraine aid amounts to $106 billion of the $174 billion Congress has approved, but not even all of this is cash. 62% of the aid to Ukraine has been direct military assistance, and just 38% has been humanitarian aid and financial aid to help the country rebuild. When I hear Trump say Zelenskyy isn't thankful enough, I think about the mass graves of Ukrainian citizens that have been found in every occupied part of Eastern Ukraine. I think about how Zelenskyy faced near certain death and fought back Russia in those first days of the invasion. I think about how Ukrainians haven't gotten good sleep in three years with air attack sirens going off in the wee hours of the morning every night. Does Trump strike you as a thankful person?
Here's what complicates the situation:
Trump has installed another Russian asset, Tulsi Gabbard, as head of National Intelligence. We will have no secrets with Russia and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Our intelligence will be theirs. They will know about our weapons, military sites, spies, and collaborators. They will have schematics on weapons and military aircraft.
Just recently, the US stopped our Russian cybersecurity efforts. The administration also controls cybersecurity for elections. No coincidences there, I'm sure. I have zero faith the next election will be secure or fair, as I can't otherwise explain why you'd actively take measures to make them less secure to an enemy that we know has attempted to affect US elections in the past.
Here's the big one - Even apart from the Russian assets actively seeking to realign the US with Russia, MAGA doesn't care about diplomacy or international relations - at all. They don't understand it and think it's a thing for the elites (folks with degrees). Per the COVID-19 Pandemic, they don't care about any international issue until it directly affects them and their grandma is dying on a ventilator. What does that mean for the Ukraine war? We don't know yet, exactly. It will largely depend on how Europe responds to the war.
NATO will be gone. This meeting wasn't even with our NATO allies, but it removed any doubt - the US will not come to their aid under Trump's purview. How willing would you be as a NATO ally to give the US intelligence when you hear the President espousing Kremlin propaganda? Probably not very much. The same kind of intelligence that protects us from malicious cyber attacks, terrorist attacks, and more.
Nobody in the MAGA party has the spine to stand up to Trump, even if they agree that Russia is an enemy. They just go along with it.
Trump canceled aid that was designated to help Ukraine rebuild its power plants and will be cutting off military aid to Ukraine altogether. This leaves vehicles we've given Ukraine, like tanks and HIMARS missile launchers, empty and without munitions. In other words, we're stealing their ammo after giving them the guns - in their biggest time of need.
If you're a patriotic American, this should disgust you. It's our darkest diplomatic moment in my lifetime. If you're a MAGA supporter, maybe you should think about if Trump intends to end the war...or end it by helping Russia win it. It's pretty clearly the latter.
That's all really dark (and true), so here's some comic relief: SNL's take on the meeting.
